CELL BLOCK ENT: Shawn Mendes Protests Climate Change Mid-Concert: Watch

Shawn Mendes performed his first stadium show in Brazil on Friday (November 29) while protesting against climate change.

The 21-year-old performed at Allianz Parque in São Paulo where he took a moment to focus on the cause that is close to his heart. During his song, "Youth," he told the crowd, "Our youth will not be taken from us," while simultaneously showing off the backside of his guitar which had masking tape that read, "climate action now."

The Shawn Mendes Foundation tweeted asking fans to support the cause and join in on his concert strike. "Today global climate strikes are happening worldwide, if you’d like to join a strike, find the location in your city at the link below," the tweet read. "If you’re attending the show tonight in São Paulo, you can bring climate action signs made from recycled cardboard." The foundation is set up to highlight and support causes that matter to Mendes most, including climate change.

Aside from fans donning climate change signs during the concert and Mendes' epic guitar moment, the "If I Can't Have You" singer spoke about climate change during his pre-show Q&A with fans. Mendes said that the most important way to combat it in America is to vote for a politician that will "think green." He also said that he is thinking of a plan that his fans can partake in and will let them know details about it soon.
